Infosys may miss FY13 guidance; TCS & Cognizant well poised: BofA-ML

NEW DELHI: Based on feedback from major IT companies, Bank of America Merrill Lynch is optimistic that 2013 could see a pick up in transformation related IT services spend. The sentiment on business outlook in 2013 for IT is better than last year, states the report.

Within the IT sector, BoA-ML feels that Infosys is likely to miss its guidance for the current financial year. The bank also sees a downside risk to its estimates for Infosys.

However, BofA-ML feels that the IT major's strategy to move up the value chain and to re-engineer costs to improve competitiveness in the more commoditized outsourcing business is right. "There is also concerted effort on execution," the report says.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) remains ahead of its peers on its investments in new markets and innovation, the report states. The bank also continues to view Cognizant as well positioned given its investment in client relationship management and new services in maturing IT services industry.

IT budgets

Both TCS and Cognizant are cautiously optimistic about 2013 budgets. TCS's CFO TV Mahalingam is reasonably optimistic and has said that transformation is a key area of focus for CEOs. On the issue of manufacturing, TCS' CFO Mahalingam said the company's manufacturing vertical has a good pipeline of future projects. He also appeared optimistic on thefinancial services vertical.

While Mahalingam expects usual seasonal weakness in the December quarter due to the year-end shutdowns or furloughs, especially at manufacturing plants, he has not cited more than expected furloughs.

On the other hand, Cognizant's North America clients are forecasting flat IT budgets in 2013, similar with prior years, with offshore likely to gain. In BofA-ML's view, Cognizant was ahead of the curve in working to grow its consulting practice as others now seek to replicate it.

Hiring:

Given lower attrition and uncertainty in the market environment, IT companies have become more cautious with on-campus hiring of fresh engineering graduates. While the campus placement process is still on, hiring is lower than last year. According to the report, companies are treading cautiously post last years' experience when the industry had over hired.

The report also cited outlook of the major IT services firms. Here is a look at how they are expected to fare across verticals in 2013:

Tata Consultancy Services

Given modest increases in utilization and an improving onsite/offshore mix, TCS hopes to achieve its aspiration of holding EBIT margins at 27% level. TCS is also investing in developing IP to help improve automation in delivery.

Infosys

Given lower revenues, the stiff margin target set for the second half appears to be at risk. However the bank has maintained its 'Buy' rating on the fact that no let up in initiatives to transform revenue mix is seen. "Growth is clearly a top priority, and is the key to margins too," the report added.

Cognizant

The bank remains comfortable with its 17.2% YoY revenue growth forecast for the fourth qaurter. It acknowledged some concern about discretionary spend. According to Rajesh Balaji, Practice leader Manufacturing and Logistics, manufacturers typically spend 0.5-1.5% of revenue on IT.

Cognizant's manufacturing clients generate 70% of revenue outside of the US. Europe has been especially focused on cost takeout. The competitive landscape has changed over the last four to five years in Balaji's view.

Boeing, TCS to begin operations in MIHAN by March 2013: Prithviraj Chavan

NAGPUR: Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport (MIHAN) is on track and by March 2013 work on Boeing's maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility would be completed.

Similarly, Tata Consultancy ServicesBSE 0.45 % (TCSBSE 0.45 %) too is setting its base in MIHAN to begin functioning by March, he said.

He was replying to a question raised in the legislative council on Tuesday during question hour.

Shiv Sena's Neelam Gorhe claimed that companies have not shown any interest in setting up base at MIHAN and the project has not found any takers owing to high rates.

He said that the house that a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to come-up alongside MIHAN, some space would be reserved for the service sector.

The state government has initiated steps to acquire 135 hectares of land, for a second airstrip.

TCS signs multi-year contract with UK's Mitchells & Butlers

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) a leading IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, today, announced that it has entered into a multi-year agreement with Mitchells & Butlers (M&B). The UK’s leading hospitality business chain is partnering with TCS to streamline the management of its HR and payroll operations, which serve 38,000 employees across 1600 restaurants and pubs across the country.

Martin Taylor, Director of Business Change & Technology, Mitchells & Butlers, said, “In the last 12 months we have successfully upgraded our core network and replaced our old data center infrastructure by moving into the cloud, whilst introducing a utility-based services model. We are now at the exciting stage of taking advantage of this foundation by implementing TCS’ HCM core HR and Payroll solution that will streamline our support processes, benefit our employees and place our guests at the heart of everything we do.”

“We are delighted to partner with Mitchells & Butlers and are confident that our cloud-based Human Capital Management solution will help align M&B’s current business operations to deliver best-in-class services to their employees and customers,” said Shankar Narayanan, Head, TCS UK & Ireland.

Susan Martindale, Group HR Director, Mitchells & Butlers, said, “We want to improve the level of HR services that we have available to our employees, and the TCS HCM system will help us on our journey to enhance our capabilities in the areas of people development, reward, resourcing and engagement.”

“The TCS HCM Platform is a result of several years of research and investment by TCS. It provides our customers with an integrated, scalable and global solution, which is not just cost-effective, but also helps customers move away from siloed approaches to talent development, payroll and employee lifecycle management,” said Raj Agrawal, Global Head, TCS’ Platform Solutions.

The agreement underscores TCS’ non-linear growth strategy in key markets. TCS’ HCM Platform is an integrated and global solution that encompasses key areas of payroll, time management, workforce administration, compensation, recruitment, learning management and performance management. It comes with full self-service, actionable analytical reporting and comprehensive mobile enablement. Customers have the choice to adopt the platform under SaaS, BPaaS (SaaS + BPO Process Delivery) or a hybrid model.

TCS expects 2013-14 to be a better year

India’s largest software services company by revenueTata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) expects the 2013-14 fiscal to be a better one for software companies than the current fiscal. As for the current fiscal, TCS will meet the revenue growth rate projected by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) lobby group. The outlook is more optimistic than guidance by Infosys Ltd, the No.2 Indian software services company.
“Nasscom has projected a growth of around 11% for fiscal year 2013 and we are sticking to that,” N. Chandrasekaran, managing director and chief executive officer, said on the sidelines of a Nasscom summit in Mumbai on Tuesday. “For manufacturing, telecom and hi-tech companies, the December quarter is furlough, so it will have an impact on growth.”
Growth traditionally slows in the three months to December for most companies with a presence in the US, the largest market for Indian software firms. The US accounts for over 50% of TCS’ total revenue.
“The US is recovering, post-elections. There’ll be a focus on job growth and economic growth. In my mind, it will do better not only as an economy, but (also) in the tech sector,” Chandrasekaran said.
In February, Nasscom had projected a growth of 11-14% in 2012-13 for India’s $100 billion information technology (IT) services industry, 70% of which is generated from exports.
Infosys told analysts last week that a further moderation is likely in its 5% projected growth this fiscal.
Brokerage Emkay Global Financial Services Ltd said in its 6 December report on Infosys that its discussions with the company indicate that a further moderation in FY13 revenue guidance of “at least 5% dollar revenue growth” to $7.3 billion is most likely, given that decision-making on some of the large deals that the company was expected to close has been affected both by natural events such as Hurricane Sandy and associated delays.
TCS will wait before commenting on client budgets.
“We are in December now, the year is ending,” Chandrasekaran said. “We will talk about it in January.”
In its 5 December report on Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp., IDFC Securities Research said, “Global corporates are experiencing uncertainty on the back of slowdown/recession in key European economies and possibility of a slowdown/recession in the US (fiscal cliff in 2013). It is likely to lead to largely flat IT budgets for CY13 with FY14 being another tepid growth for Indian IT sector.”
Last week, Cognizant’s filing to the US regulator Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) hinting at growth of around 16%—slower than its previous estimate—sent IT stocks in the red.
Most brokerages expect IT stocks to underperform the Sensex, BSE Ltd’s bellwether equity index, in the next fiscal. In past six months the exchange’s IT index has lost 4.03% while the Sensex has gained 22.16%.
On Tuesday, the Sensex was down 0.12% to 19,837 points and the IT index was down 0.71% to 5,554 points.
“I don’t see the stocks of the entire IT sector doing the same. The sector is in a mature phase where certain players like TCS, HCL and Tech Mahindra will do better than the rest like Infosys, Wipro,” said an analyst with a Mumbai-based brokerage, requesting anonymity.
Chandrasekaran of TCS flagged currency as a concern.
“As long as there is no huge volatility between quarters, we are okay, but we need to keep long-term rupee appreciation in mind,” he said.
Hitesh Shah, Indian telecom and technology analyst with IDFC Securities Research, agreed.
“If there is a gradual rupee appreciation, companies can absorb it but if there is sharp appreciation, then it will affect them,” he said. “We are building in some kind of rupee appreciation in our estimates of IT companies for the next one to two years.”
The local currency has been volatile this year. From a level of 53.31 against the dollar in the beginning of the year, the rupee slipped to 57.16, its lifetime low, on 22 June, losing 7.16%. A series of measures by the Reserve Bank of India propped up the local currency to 51.74 against the dollar in October but since then it has lost 4.66% to close at 54.28 against the dollar on Tuesday.

Mumbai, December 6, 2012: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) a leading consulting, business solutions and IT services organization, announced, today, that it has been rated as a Leader in Insurance IT Application Outsourcing (AO) by the Everest Group, an advisory and research firm on global services. Everest Group’s PEAK Matrix, published in October 2012 also recognized TCS as a “2012 Insurance AO Market Star Performer” - a distinction that is awarded to providers with the strongest year-on-year forward movement in market success and capability advancements.

Among the attributes that garnered TCS the honor are the company’s sharp focus and investments in the insurance vertical, the large and growing numbers of active global Insurance clients, and TCS’ customized and innovative products and solutions for the insurance industry that support all the insurance line of businesses (LoBs) across all AO functions. TCS improved on its already strong showing in the prior year’s report, receiving the highest rating among all service providers in the analysis of both delivery capability and market success (based on transaction activity).

“We are delighted to receive the Leader and Market Star Performer Rating from Everest Group. This reaffirms our position as the leader in providing domain-led large transformational services to the global insurance industry,” said Suresh Muthuswami, President, Insurance and Healthcare, TCS. “Our commitment and investments on building relevant and current offerings for a rapidly evolving industry along with our domain-led full services offerings enable us to be the partner of choice for our insurance clients”.

“As insurers across the globe look at leveraging technology and outsourcing to support their key business priorities and adopt a more result-oriented approach, TCS continued to build on its strengths through investments in domain capabilities,” saidJimit Arora, Vice President, Everest Group. “Despite its large operating scale, TCS registered growth of approximately 30% in Insurance AO revenue and ACV and improved on its strong prior year position on this report to be designated Leader and Market Star Performer this year.”

In this report, Everest Group analyzed the capabilities of 20 leading AO service providers specific to the global insurance sector. These providers were mapped on Everest Group’s Performance | Experience | Ability | Knowledge (PEAK) Matrix and divided into three categories: Leaders, Major Contenders and Emerging Players. PEAK is a composite index of a range of distinct metrics related to a provider’s capability and market success. Access this report here.

TCS DOCUMENTATION....

TCS Documentation Process Is A Bit Like The Passport Application process..
Too Complicated If u dont know what to do or dont have the relevant docs
But Damn Easy Once You Know what exactly to do :)

Lets Do the Process in The Clique Way <3 <3

Here's the order of discussion:
* Academic Requirements
* National Skills Registry (NSR)
* Smart Card photo upload

Important Documents On DOJ
* Stamp papers Needed
* Notarization
* SERVICE AGREEMENT (SA)
* Surety Verification Form (SVF)
* Documents needed for SURETY/FD
* PROCESS FOR FIXED DEPOSIT
* NON CRIMINAL OFFENSE AFFIDAVIT (NCA)
* MEDICAL CERTIFICATE (MC)
* Documents list for BGC
* Other Documents That Are Very Important
* Non Documental Stuff
* Personal suggestions

Please Check the order and scroll down to it if you are browsing for a specific issue.. Read on for the complete overview :)

To ensure a hassle-free joining at TCS, We request you to complete the following things-

Things to take care of before DOJ include Meeting the eligibility criteria and having all the corresponding original marks memos, completion of NSR, uploading pic for Smart card [TCS ID card]

Academic Requirements:

Since there are no timeframes for the GO attestation on docs, it is preferable to start the process by attestation of academic docs. anyways, we would suggest u to take photocopies of the docs and get the attestation done on these docs when u complete SA, NCA and other docs :)

You should Complete All the Academic Courses [10th, 12th, Grad (and PG if applicable)] within the timeframe and with an overall aggregate of >60% in all of them. You can have <60% in one of the semesters of grad, no issues when the overall aggregate is >60%. All your backlogs should be cleared before the completion of last semester. And Not very sure on how strict they are on this part, but TCS started a new rule from 2012 batch that there should be no backlogs in the final semester. So please tc of that too to avoid any issues on DOJ. If there are any problems with the eligibility criteria, talking to the HR would be the only solution. Please dont rely upon helpdesk solutions in such crucial issues where HR takes the final call.

Once this eligibility criteria is met, u should make sure that u have the originals of all the academic documents.

******On DOJ you would be required to submit the following academic docs******

1. All Mark statements of of Class 10th & 12th – Original and 3 copies attested by GO
2. Mark statements for all semesters of Degree/PG – Original and 3 copies attested by GO
3. Consolidated mark statement (if any) of Degree – Original and 3 copies attested by GO
4. Course Completion Certificate /Provisional Certificate /Degree Certificate – Original and 3 copies attested by GO

****Please note that the GO must be of Grade 1 or 2 but not of lesser grades.****

Easily approachable GOs competent to attest ur docs include
* Doctor with MBBS as min. qualification and working in GOVT hospital
* Assistant/ Associate Professors/Principal of Government Degree Colleges
* Lecturers in government intermediate/senior secondary education institutes

Note: These people should have the Name of the Govt. hospital / Govt, Educational insti mentioned in their office stamp that they use for attestation :)

If any of them are missing, arrange for duplicates to be issued by the university as soon as u notice that. if u are running out of time, talk to HR and ask for alternate measures. No Helpdesk solutions here too. :)

Once this is done and u r sure that u have all the originals of academic docs, find out which xerox shop has got less price [a big number of photocopies and prints required.. so even cost is to be taken care of] and good quality in surroundings and plan a visit to it :D

Originals would be returned back after verification. GO attested copies are for Submission.

Take few Extra copies as they would be handy later on. taking 5 copies would be ideal :)

National Skills Registry (NSR):

You should have completed atleast the first phase of National Skills Registry (NSR) registration which is an online process and takes less time than the usual time u spend for checking notifications in fb :)
If u have time and a POS [place where u submit the fingerprints and pay the fee] near your city or town, please do the 2nd phase too coz doing it in ILP would require you to be at ILP after the timings or come before the timings and stand in a long queue.
Once u finish this, u'll get an ITPIN that u have to submit through the nextstep portal.
please use internet explorer for submission of it and btw, u'll Not receive any mail on successful submission. just a dialogue box says that it is successfully inserted. so do it carefully. :)

Bring a copy of NSR e card (u can download from NSR website after completion of NSR 2 phases) for submission on DOJ.

If u are planning to finish only 1 phase then please finish it on some day closer to DOJ as the 2nd phase has to be done within 50 days after completion of phase 1, else u will have to do the 1st phase again.

Smart Card photo upload..
The smart card is nothing but ur TCS id card :)
The photo upload mail u get is for the pic that they will give u on the ID card..
They'll have a set of rules on how the pic should be.. white background, formal dress, straight face, size of pic, dimensions and bla bla bla :P
If everything is as per instruction.. the pic would be onto the ID card and u'll get them on day1 end of the day.. else.. when there is a problem with the format,size,background or late upload etc.. U will be asked to attend a photosession in ILP and they'll take ur pic and will use it for the smart card. These people will get the ID cards the next day.. So nothing to lose except that u'll have to stand in long queue for the free photoshoot..
n to be on safe side, try to be neatly trimmed on Day1 coz that appearance of urs might become the pic on ID card for the rest of ur Time in TCS :P

Important Documents On DOJ:

Most Important documents on DOJ include the completed “service agreement” [SA] , “Non Criminal offense Affidavit” [NCA] and “medical certificate” [MC].
Surety Verification Form [SVF] and the surety proofs are considered to be an internal part of SA.

Academic documents are also very very important along with these documents.

BGC was initially done offline with the req docs submitted on DOJ, but now this is an online process which is done after joining. So lets start with what are all important on DOJ :)

There is no limit as such on "When to do SA and NCA" but as TCS sometimes make minor changes to the layout or content and wants the same to be submitted on DOJ, we would suggest you to make SA and NCA in the last 2-3 weeks from DOJ.

TCS has a guideline for MC.
MC should be made in the last 8 Days from DOJ. It is ok if it is 2 weeks or so from DOJ but prefer doing it in last 8 days as TCS prefers so :)

Stamp papers Needed :

U would need 2 100rs stamp papers.
One For SA and One For NCA.

Please use standard Stamp papers that are available for exact amount. If the 100 rs stamp papers are not available, u can take 2 50 rs stamp papers instead of 1 100 rs stamp paper.

In case of non availability of normal stamp paper, u can take e-stamp paper.. these are sold as alternatives for Normal stamp papers in areas like karnataka.

Franking and sticking stamps to increase value are legal ways of doing docs but we have never come across recruits trying the same at TCS.. so please try to avoid them as far as possible.

1st page of SA and 1st page of NCA would be done on these stamp papers.
While buying them please take care of these things..
* Stamp paper should be bought in ur name.
* The person who sells the stamp paper will take details of 1st party and 2nd party.
Give the 1st party as TCSL
and 2nd party as your name :)

You can buy these at courts or shops of advocates/notaries where legal agreements are made :)

If you are Doing Any affidavits for the name/Signature mismatches or BC related translations and affidavits etc., those should be done on 20 rs stamp papers which are bought in the name of the person who have the discrepancy in details.
Address proof affidavit, Gap affidavit stamp paper should be bought in your name.
In case of non availability of 20 rs stamp paper, u can take 2 10 rs stamp papers or a stamp paper of higher denomination like 50 or 100 rs.

Please Note: DO NOT Notarise Service Agreement.
Apart from SA, All other affidavits need to be notarized.

Notarization:

It is a process where a public notary would give his seal and sign on the affidavits to state that he has checked the req docs to make the declaration and the doc is legally valid.
Along with notary, an advocate signature and seal is mandatory on last page of affidavits. Many notaries are notary+advocate. In such cases notary seal with "Advocate and notary" and one signature would also be enough :)

SERVICE AGREEMENT (SA):

SERVICE AGREEMENT (SA) is an agreement which states that u r aware of the company rules and u agree for working in the company for certain duration.. in TCS for freshers it is two years.
The Agreement requires signatures from recruit to make sure that he agrees to the company rules and surety signature so that he assures to pay 50k + interest in case the recruit fails to meet the SA duration.

You can download the SA content from the nextstep portal after getting ur Joining Letter [JL].

U have to get the 1st page content printed in 100rs stamp paper.
Rest of the pages are to be Done in A4/Bond/Legal papers. Prefer doing 'em in Good quality bond or A4 papers :)
Remember that in SA.. Including the stamp paper, all pages content should be printed, not the blanks. blanks should be filled with Ballpoint Pen [MANDATORY]It should be signed both by you and surety in the appropriate places.. No extra documents needed

Surety Verification Form (SVF) :

This is nothing but the details of person who would sign stating that he would be ur surety for the amount of 50k stated in the SA. The content is the last page of SA which u download from the nextstep portal.

Get it filled by surety and the gazetted officer who will verify surety’s signature and will also attest the same page
Documents needed for SURETY/Documents for FD/Documents for Land Deed or Land Passbook:

Surety Can be Any person who is either
an income tax payee with taxable income and having valid proofs of income
or
owns an agricultural land of worth more than 50k

Surety Need not be a blood relative. The person can be ur parent, friend, friend's dad, neighbour, family friend.. in short any1 who satisfy the above condition, ready to sign as surety and give the supporting docs :)

1. Surety verification form (attested by Gazetted officer.)
Instead of Surety Verification form u can also submit GO attested photocopy of surety's Passport.
Other documents are mandatory in either of the cases.

2. Surety’s Pancard (photocopy attested by Gazetted officer)

3. Surety’s proof income (photocopy attested by Gazetted officer) :

1.Photocopy of the Land Deed or Land Passbook (Attested By Gazetted officer)
2.Recent valuation certificate of the property (in English only) from the Competent Authority duly signed and sealed. The present market estimate of the property should not be less than INR.50,000 and the valuation must be done within the last 6 months from DOJ.
Or

PROCESS FOR FIXED DEPOSIT

Please note that in case you are not able to arrange a surety, submit a Fixed Deposit (FD) in your name, for an amount of Rs. 50,000/- deposited in any of the nationalized banks.

List of Nationalized banks from TCS mail is as follows:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/tcsplaced0812/505198272847627/

The FD should be 'Assigned to Tata Consultancy Services Ltd or Noted in Lien of or
Made in a joint account between the associate and Tata Consultancy Services Limited '.

The FD certificate has to be submitted on the day of joining ILP.
The FD along with the interest will be returned to the candidate after completion of two years of service with TCS

The fixed deposit could be taken in either of the following formats:
a. Joint account between Tata Consultancy Services Ltd and you
OR
b. In your Name either assigned to Tata Consultancy Services Ltd
OR
c.Lien noted in favor of Tata Consultancy Services Ltd

In case of FD..

All surety Fields in Service agreement should be left blank.
Surety verification form is not required. U can simply write not applicable on an empty printout of SVF and carry with u to ILP on DOJ :)

NON CRIMINAL OFFENSE AFFIDAVIT (NCA):

This is an affidavit where the recruit states that there are no pending cases on him/her and is perfectly eligible to join TCS. It also states that all the required eligibility criteria are met and he is not cheating in providing required details to TCS regarding academics and job experience etc.

The content of NCA has to be downloaded from the nextstep portal. It is present in the annexure which is present along with the SA. Look into the content and u'll find the NCA relevant content in it :)

U have to get the 1st page content printed in 100rs stamp paper.
Rest of the pages are to be Done in A4/Bond/Legal papers. Prefer doing 'em in Good quality bond or A4 papers :)

Similar to SA, NCA content has to be printed and the blanks are to be filled by using ballpoint pen [mandatory].

Witnesses can be anyone except u, ur surety, the notary/advocate who are non blood relatives of u. Best of the options for witness would be ur friends and neighbours.
no documents needed for this part..only get it notarized.
make sure that notary-seal, sign and attestation are duly present in all the pages

The place and date fields near ur signature and witness fields in the NCA should be the same as place and date of notarization

MEDICAL CERTIFICATE (MC) :

This is a document where an MBBS doctor states that the recruit is medically fit to join TCS and his health condition would not stop him from working normally.

Any Doctor with minimum qualification of MBBS can attest your MC.

The content of MC has to be downloaded from the nextstep portal. It is present in the annexure which is present along with the SA. Look into the content and u'll find the MC relevant content which is of 2 pages in it :)
affix a passport size photo of u on the 1st page at designated place and get it attested by the doctor. make sure that the attestation is done in such a way that it is across the pic i.e., half of the signature and stamp are on the page and remaining on the pic.
fill the pages with the required details . make sure doctor’s registration-id , seal and sign are present in the second page at required places.

No extra documents needed for this part

Documents list for BGC

BGC is done after joining, during ILP.. But the documents should be there with you on DOJ.

1.Self-attested copy of valid ID proof – .
One of these:
-> Passport
-> Voters ID
-> PAN card
-> Driving License
2.Self-attested copy of valid address proof
One of these:
-> Valid Passport
-> Aadhar Card
-> Ration card
-> Residence Certificate
-> Bills - Landline phone,electricity(can be in others name, surnames should match)
-> Notarised Affidavit in Rs.20 stamp paper (Candidates name should be present in the proof)
[make separate affidavits for present and permanent addresses if they are different]

3.Self-attested and signed documents to explain break (if any) in education - (i) or (ii) or (iii):

(ii) Certificates / Examination results, if the break was due to additional course done.
(iii) Affidavit on a Rs. 20 stamp paper with notary authorization, if the break was due to other personal reasons.

If the reason is medical or educational but you dont have the required supporting docs, it is suggested to mention the reason as personal and make a gap Affidavit on 20 rs stamp paper.
4.In case your residential address(present/permanent) is Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane City, Thane Rural or, Pune you need to submit Self-attested Criminal Investigation Division (CID) forms for the respective region (Available in Nextstep portal https://nextstep.tcs.com) +supporting documents mentioned within each form. This is in addition to the BGC form.
The required proofs would include extra copies of address proof and ID proof and filling some other forms that can be downloaded from the portal.

Other Documents That Are Very Important:

1. TCS Offer Letter- Self attested

2. Joining letter - Self attested

3. Passport (not mandatory on 1st day) – Original and 3 copies attested by Gazetted officer

4. Pancard – Original and 3 copies attested by Gazetted officer
** No PAN = No Salary.
So apply PAN As soon as possible. It is also important to open bank account for salary account on DOJ.

5. Birth Certificate - Original and 3 copies attested by gazetted officer.
If birth certificate is not available or if it is in local language or your name is missing, please produce a Birth Affidavit in English on a Rs. 20 stamp paper – Original

6.Technical Certification if any(Original and 2 attested copies)

7. Relieving letter(if you have previous work experience) – Original and 3 copies attested by Gazetted officer

Non Documental Stuff :

1. Passport size photos 12 + 2 stamp size photos
Prefer To Have Formal Pics. Please leave the informal pics with rockstar styling informal backgrounds and flashy dresses at home and take pics that are having light background and formal pics.

2. Details of the person you would choose for gratuity, pf etc. Only details are required. no supporting documents needed :)

Salary accounts..
U need not have any bank account before joining TCS.. make sure that u have the PAN card of yours ready..
TCS will call 1 or 2.. n sometimes even 3 banks on Day1.. Each of them will explain their offers..
U can choose 1 and they'll open on account for you on the same day :)
If you already have a savings account in one of those banks that come for ur batch.. u can ask them to convert your existing account to TCS salary account :)
And one more point here..
No PAN = No Salary..
U'll get the salary in next month as and when u update the PAN and Bank Account details in the TCS employee portal called Ultimatix .. credentials to login would be provided on DOJ.. So pay attention to it :)

People should update their details in ultimatix [TCS employee portal.. credentials would be shared in ILP after joining] before 7th of a month to receive their salary of that month at end of the month.. else the salary would be coming as consolidated amount with the pay of next month :)

Personal suggestions:

** Dont take risks with discrepencies in data.. let it be very small, make necessary affidavits for the issue.

** carry extra photocopies of all the docs.. atleast 2 extra copies so that they will be handy whenever u need them.

** carry original PAN. Would be helpful in bank acc opening and stuff and as ID proof too.

** when you are carrying Originals to ILP from ur location, in journey to ILP location etc., please be very very careful as they are your most valuable assets atleast for that big day. Dont get the things messed up at the last moment.

In short.. Start with taking the photocopies of Academic docs and proofs.
Find A Surety Who has clear proofs which are not confusing. Also find another alternate surety as a backup in case of any emergency later on.

Then Complete the documentation process within the last 2-3 weeks from DOJ. Attestation of Photocopies and SA,NCA process would be better done at a time.
Upload pic for smart card after receiving the mail.
And MC should be done in the last within 8 days of DOJ :)

We know how hectic the process can be if u dont have clarity on what to do..

Hope this document guides u and helps in providing a clear overview w.r.t. TCS documentation on
what is what
and
when to do what :D

Thanks for the patience in reading the complete document.. :D

All the Best for an easy documentation process and a hassle free joining :)

Spread The Smiles.. \m/ :) :)

CCI gives approval for restructuring of two TCS entities

The Competition Commission has approved the restructuring of the two subsidiaries of country's largest software exporterTata Consultancy Services. The restructuring pertains to two entities -- e-Serve and TEIL.

"It is observed that the proposed combination is a group restructuring exercise and the ultimate control over the activities of e-Serve and TEIL would continue to be exercised by TCS, both prior to as well as pursuant to the proposed combination," the Commission said in order dated November 22.

The proposed combination is, therefore, not likely to have any adverse competitive effect in India, the Commission said. TCS, e-Serve and TEIL are into the business of providing IT, ITeS and Business Process Outsourcing services. The combination process would consist of two parts -- amalgamation of e-Serve into TCS and the demerger of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) undertaking of TEIL into TCS.

TEIL is a wholly-owned subsidiary of TCS. TCS holds 96.26 per cent stake in TEIL through e-Serve. The Commission said TEIL SEZ includes the business of TEIL -- that primarily is providing information technology and information technology-enabled services carried out at SEZ locations in Chennai, Kolkata and Gurgaon.

TCS along with TCS e-Serve Ltd and TCS e-Serve International Ltd had jointly filed an application seeking approval on November 12. The notice was submitted following a composite scheme of amalgamation after being cleared by their respective boards on October 19.

TCS wins multi-million pound contract from the United Kingdom's Home Office

London/Mumbai, November 28, 2012: Tata Consultancy Services (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a leading IT services, consulting and business solutions firm announced that it has won a multi-million pound, multi-year contract from the Home Office, a key department of the United Kingdom government to manage the technology needs and support services of the newly formed Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

TCS will implement a program to transform DBS, including the introduction of electronic applications and improved online services to enhance user experience. The company will provide end-to-end process, technology and operations support for an initial period of five years, as per the agreement. The two organizations, DBS and TCS, will also collaborate to update the organization’s business processes to help improve decision making and reduce processing times. TCS will also build new integrated case management system to support seamless integration and information gathering between disclosure and barring services.

Shankar Narayanan, Country Head, UK & Ireland, TCS said, “Our proposed IT solution supports the UK Government’s ‘Digital by Default’ initiative and fully meets the business objectives of DBS to modernize and transform its business. Delivering technology-enabled business transformation is at the heart of TCS’ work and we look forward to bringing our expertise in helping DBS to achieve operational efficiencies, an enhanced customer service and a new digital channel for citizens and employers.”

John O'Brien, Research Director, Tech Market View, a leading analyst firm, notes, “TCS’ engagement with the Home Office underpins the investment it continues to make in growing its presence in the UK public sector. It follows an engagement with the National Savings and Employment Trust (NEST), which was a landmark contract in terms of size and scale for an Indian headquartered company with the UK Government. This latest contract awarded by the UK Government signals confidence in TCS’ capability to provide technology-enabled transformation programs aimed at helping the public sector to deliver services efficiently to UK citizens.”

TCS’ engagement with the UK public sector market over recent years has seen it participate in multiple technology-enabled transformation programs. TCS combines government specific domain expertise with a world-class set of delivery capabilities to enable service transformation for some of its key government clients in the UK, such as, National Employment Savings Trust (NEST), Cardiff City Council, Child Maintenance Group (CMG is a division of DWP) and The Big Lottery Fund, amongst others.

A new CHAMPION

Natarajan Chandrasekaran, 49, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) wakes up at 4 am every day to go for a run. He has been a marathon runner since 2007. "Well-being is fundamental. Unless you are both physically and mentally well, you cannot look after your family," he says. "And if you cannot do either of these, you cannot look after the company."

And by the looks of it, Chandrasekaran seems to be doing all right. Under his watch, TCS has, for the first time, emerged the top company in the BT 500 list, pushing Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) to second place. It is the first private sector company to pip RIL - which has repeatedly bagged the No. 1 spot in previous years - in a decade.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: TCS CEO and MD N. Chandrasekaran

TCS CEO and MD N Chandrasekaran
Under S. Ramadorai, TCS grew at a furious pace, its revenue rising from USD 160 million in 1996 to USD 6 billion by the time he retired in 2009Not long ago, many investors believed that even within the information technology sector, rival Infosys had the brighter future. Though TCS was always ahead in terms of revenue, Infosys enjoyed the more attractive profile. Today, not only is the situation reversed, TCS is the biggest company in the country in terms of market capitalization, measured as the average between April 1 and September 30. With the successful launch of its initial public offering in 2004, it has proved a champion long distance runner.

While the two successive downturns of 2008 and 2011 in the US and Europe - from which Indian IT companies earn the bulk of their revenues - ravaged rivals like Infosys and Wipro, TCS has held its ground. The TCS scrip, at Rs 526.80 on January 1, 2008 (adjusted for a 1:1 bonus issue in June 2009) gained 147.7 per cent since then to Rs 1305.20 on October 18, 2012.

Since Chandrasekaran took over as CEO in 2009, TCS has more than doubled its revenue lead over Infosys. The latter was always known for the high profit margin it kept on contracts, but in recent years TCS has bridged that gap as well.

Founded in 1968 as a small IT division of Tata Sons, the main holding company of the Tata Group, TCS, then headed by F.C. Kohli, quickly acquired an enviable reputation. It was incorporated as a separate entity in 1995, and led by S. Ramadorai, its first CEO, grew at a furious pace. Revenues rose from $160 million in 1996 when Ramadorai took over to $6 billion by the time he retired in 2009. Under Chandrasekaran since then, TCS's revenues have grown to over $10 billion. And though the Tata conglomerate operates around 100 companies, TCS contributes about a third of its net profit, apart from generating significant wealth for the group in terms of market capitalization. (Tata Sons owns 74 per cent of TCS.)

So what is Chandrasekaran's magic formula for success? In the three years since he stepped into Ramadorai's shoes, he has reenergised the company, say market analysts. "The energy levels of the top 50 executives at TCS are very high," says Sudin Apte, CEO of outsourcing advisory firm, Offshore Insights. "Their top clients say TCS's ability to look into the future and invest proactively makes them happy."

Chandrasekaran has rejigged positions within the organisation without causing much disruption, hired executives from competing firms to head important accounts, revamped TCS's marketing, chased deals aggressively and made TCS focus obsessively on customer needs.

In a discussion in his artefactsladen room at TCS's headquarters in Mumbai, however, he refuses to be drawn into any comparisons with Ramadorai. "You do different things at different times," he says. "Growth is the result of an equation. That equation has a lot of variables."

What are these? "The variables you have to drive and focus on every day are relevancy to the customer, assembling the team and giving it the opportunity," he says. "I think what we have achieved is due to a combination of the organisation's structure and the right mindset. The organisational structure has been built to drive empowerment, agility, nimbleness and create aspiration within the team."

Global food and beverage behemoth PepsiCo outsources a good deal of its IT operations to Infosys, Cognizant and TCS. Though Infosys remains its biggest partner, says Caroline Watteeuw, Global Chief Technology Officer (CTO), PepsiCo, TCS does more of the innovative and emerging technology work for the company. "TCS does analytics, difficult specialty applications such as transportation optimisation systems," she says. "We have only recently started working with them but they are very impressive." Credit rating agency Moody's Corporation has TCS managing some of its maintenance work. "I have worked with other Indian vendors, but TCS brings in a lot of depth of talent," says Brian Clark, CTO, Moody's.

So too Ankur Rudra, analyst at investment group Ambit Capital, who, in January 2011, was the first to downgrade the Infosys stock, remains gung ho on TCS. "The company has got three things right," he says. "It focused on infrastructure management much earlier than its peers, and that is the fastest growing service line in the industry. Next, it has been able to maintain a much leaner cost structure than its rivals such as Wipro and Infosys. That has helped it maintain profitability despite getting into low billing contracts in emerging markets or running infrastructure systems. Third, it has been aggressive in investing in new growth geographies such as Latin America and parts of the Asia Pacific and Europe. These are paying dividends now."

It is primarily the leaner cost structure that has enabled it to lately bridge the margin deficit with Infosys. Were its lower margins in earlier years the result of charging too little to attract more business? Chief Financial Officer S. Mahalingam denies this emphatically. "Our lower margins earlier were a result of two factors - the cost of serving customers [more onsite work] and higher selling, general and administrative expenses," he says. "Both these have been looked at."

Between April 2009 and June 2010, TCS improved its operating margin by 4.1 percentage points. Mahalingam explains the changed approach. "In the growing years, if there was a potential of getting $1 million in revenue from an onsite location, we would set up an office there," he says. "The location may not have had more than one customer. At one point we said, what the hell are we doing? Instead of opening offices everywhere, we ensured people communicated with clients in different forms, including travel to the concerned locations."

But some forms of aggressive pricing remain part of TCS's strategy. While structuring deals, it offers clients payment flexibility of a kind the likes of Infosys do not. For instance, clients are often given the leeway to pay over longer durations, which helps in attracting business during difficult situations like the present one. Despite the downturn, TCS's clients providing business of over $50 million and $100 million annually have doubled in the last two years, to 46 and 14 respectively. The company's accounts with some of its biggest customers such as GE, Citibank, Home Depot and JPMorgan Chase have significantly increased, market watchers say.

Will TCS be able to sustain its No. 1position? There are indeed challenges ahead. In coming years it is likely to face more competition from multinationals, which are becoming experts at replicating the low cost Indian IT model. There may be more pressure on margins because of higher onsite hiring, as some advanced markets resort to protectionism. Business from telecom and banking customers is likely to remain under pressure because of smaller IT budgets. The rupee appreciation against the dollar, lately begun, is another worry. Over the next few months, the IT sector could underperform the broader market.

"I am not a fortune teller and nobody can predict the market," says Chandrasekaran. But he remains an optimist. "What I do know is that this is an industry with phenomenal opportunities because of the rise of new technologies, the growing complexities, and the need for companies to take help from partners to adapt and take advantage of what the technologies have to offer." Looks like the TCS CEO intends running even harder.

TCS's Chandra bags India Business Leader Awards

Imagine a list that includes KV Kamath, Mukesh Ambani, Deepak Parekh, Anand Mahindra and Ratan Tata. Now imagine how exceptional a business leader would have to be to get on to that list. But this year's business leader of the year made it look easy.

At one point in the over three hour long jury deliberations, they asked TCS MD & CEO N Chandrasekaran to leave the room. That's because Chandra had made it to the final list of eight nominations for the business leader of the year award.

Pratip Chaudhuri, chairman of SBI said, "When the selection was done, Mr. Chandra recused himself as the best practices, there again was total unanimity."

Even though in the fray were some heavy hitters - like Nitin Paranjpe, Aditya Puri and Chanda Kochhar. But this young leader, an avid trekker and marathoner, who has helped his company scale the USD 10 billion in revenue mark - won every vote in the room

Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman of Bharti Airtel said, "Chandrasekaran has done a great job. He has taken over the company which was not too much in the past and what he has done to the company is remarkable. TCS is really above the charts now, above everybody else in the country across the sectors and coming across very strong leaders, shadows like Ram is no mean achievement."

"Chandrasekaran has put his stamp on the success and growth of the company. And, I think we all lauded him for his achievement," Mittal added.

YC Deveshwar, chairman, ITC said, "I think the size of the business, is market capitalization, its foreign exchange earning, the amount of employment creation. For me when you look at growth rates, whether it is in terms of PAT or growth rates in terms of return of capital employed, return in terms of net worth or any other capital indicators."

Deveshwar further added, "The size of the company is very important because it gets tougher when you get bigger and bigger. So, TCS has demonstrated that they have continued to perform even during a period when there has been a relatively lower position of the sector."

Harish Salve senior advocate of Supreme Court said, "There can be hardly any doubt that he is one of the finest leaders. Running a company like TCS, sometimes it's a challenge when you are running an institution and yet making it perform better. It's easy to start from zero. Zero to five is 500% growth. But, 5000 to 5001 is a very small growth but sometimes maybe a very difficult growth. That's why he wins."

Next 12 months to be better than last for IT sector

The country's largest software exporter Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) today said it expects the next 12 months to be better than the last for the technology industry, citing clarity in the business environment.

"We are seeing an uptick. There is a lot more clarity and certainty about projects and decision cycles. I'm quite positive and companies are wanting to adopt technologies and are making decisions," TCS Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director N Chandrasekaran said on the sidelines of World Economic Forum on India here.

There are a variety of deals in the market and ramp ups are happening, he added.

"Pricing is stable. So, I expect the next 12 months to be better than the last 12 months," Chandrasekaran said, however,adding IT budgets were expected to be flat or slightly higher.

On US President Barack Obama getting elected for the second time, he said the focus would continue be on economic growth and job creation in the US.

"We will not see anything new because we have lived through that (economic uncertainty) for the last couple of years. I think there will be a lot of economic activity, which is focused both on financial performance and better growth rates, also in terms of job creation," Chandrasekaran said.

He added that this would lead to creation of a lot of new opportunities.

"That (focus on economic activities) translates into significant opportunity for the technology sector because it will be central in creating jobs in the US, India and in other markets which are used as global delivery centres," he added.

In the last 12 months, the IT major has created 2,500 jobs in the US alone.

Talking about visa related issue, he said: "Governments will look at policies of different kinds and when unemployment situation is high, there will be changes in the regulations and all we need to look for is clarity and try to make adjustments to our business model."

"We have planned our jobs, staffing and visas better and have also recruited in other markets," he added.
